Fire Crews Douse Structure and Vegetation Fire in Orinda

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire on Muth Drive in Orinda Monday afternoon that burned a deck and nearby plants.

Here is the press release from the Moraga-Orinda Fire Department:

On Monday, August 19, 2013, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District responded to a 1-alarm out-building and deck fire spreading into the adjacent vegetation on Muth Drive in Orinda.

The fire was reported by neighbors at 1:18 p.m. with one home threatened. Firefighters controlled the fire within 13 minutes of their arrival.

A total of six (6) apparatus with 21 personnel from MOFD and Contra Costa County Fire responded to the scene. Due to the Red Flag Warning, MOFD had one addition fire crew staffed in Orinda.

Additional staffing during Red Flag Warnings allows MOFD to more quickly and aggressively control fires.

With the extreme fire weather conditions, the potential for ignition is extreme. Residents are advised not to mow brush at any time during these weather conditions and that any open flame can lead to a large fire.

No firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
