Drugs At Center of Two Moraga Incidents; Investigation Underway

Moraga police confiscated suspected black tar heroin during a routine traffic stop the same day they were called on to investigate a reported armed drug rip-off in town.

At 4:29 p.m. on April 15 a Moraga police officer stopped a 1997 BMW on Chalda Way near Rheem Blvd. after the officer observed that the car's rear brake light was out.

The officer reported seeing the driver, a 19-year-old Moraga man, attempting to remove an object from his pocket and conceal it as the officer approached the car. The officer also reported smelling alcohol from inside the car.

A search turned up six small baloons containing a black tar substance along with several syringes and an open bottle of alcohol. Jewelry the officer suspected might have been stolen was also found and the driver was ultimately arrested on a variety of charges and later taken to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez.

Earlier in the day, officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery involving local teenagers who had reportedly sought to buy drugs from an area drug dealer - only to lose their money to the alleged dealer when he reportedly pulled a gun on them.

Police said witnesses in this case were hesitant to provide the names of those involved but that information was developed and an investigation into the alleged  incident is underway.
