"Driving While 16" Charges In Moraga

Every parent's nightmare: a sporty car; some pot; some booze; and not enough good judgment to go around.

Moraga police were called to the 200 block of Corliss Drive to check out a silver 2008 BMW 328I near Lynnwood Place Sunday evening.

Apparently the car was parked in the middle of the road, its emergency lights flashing and the engine still running. An officer found a 16-year-old Lafayette girl behind the wheel and two BFF passengers along for the ride, all of the girls believing they were safely and legally parked at the curb -- instead of in the middle of the street.

The officer noted the smell of marijuana inside the car and ultimately seized several grams of the leafy substance along with an open bottle of vodka and another one of wine. Reality dawned for the youthful driver in the form of a citation for driving outside the restrictions of her newly minted license, another for possession of open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and another for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana inside a motor vehicle.

The rear passenger was cited for possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle . All three girls were released to their parents and, perhaps, had a cautionary tale to tell at school the next day.
