Crime in Orinda: Prostitution, Cop Assault, Suicide and a BBQ for Kids

Note: the BBQ was not a crime, but it did involve police.

by Jim Caroompas

It was a strange week for Orinda police, given the nature of the violations.

According to City Manager Janet Keeter's report, there were two arrests for prostitution. Lamorinda Patch is seeking further information on those arrests; stay tuned.

There was also an arrest for assault on a police officer. What kind of mindset does it take to assault a well-trained, well-armed individual who has a motivated group of similar individuals to back him or her up? Talk about over confidence.

Police made an arrest for domestic battery as well, and one for petty theft and parole violation.

Investigations into several residential burglaries are ongoing, as well as an investigation into a suicide.

Two officers,  joined city department heads at a BBQ held to welcome incoming students into Orinda Intermediate School. 250 kids had hot dogs, chips and soda. It was probably the first gathering of that size in Orinda in which the Draft Housing Element was not the topic of discussion.
