Police are investigating a collision of a car, a motorcycle and a hydrant Sunday afternoon across Deer Hill Road from the Lafayette BART station.

The motorcyclist, a 70-year-old man from Moraga, was unconscious and unresponsive in the roadway when officers arrived, Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen wrote in an email. The accident was at the corner of Deer Hill and North Thompson roads in Lafayette at 1:23 p.m. Sunday. The sedan was making a left turn from Deer Hill onto North Thompson, Christensen said, and was struck by the motorcycle as the sedan crossed his lane of travel.

"The motorcyclist struck the vehicle on the passenger-side rear door and was thrown over the top of the car to the roadway," the chief reported. "Following the impact, the car drove into the hydrant and came to rest there."
