Car Impacts Power Pole In Orinda; Blackout Broadens As Crews Work To Restore Power

A crash at Moraga Way and Glorietta Thursday evening knocked out power to a dozen homes in the immediate area Thursday - but more are expected to go dark Friday afternoon and into the evening.

Roughly a dozen homes in the area of Moraga Way and Glorietta Blvd. in Orinda are without power Friday after an overnight collision in the area knocked out a power pole - but more homes are expected to go dark as PG&E crews work to restore power.

Lamorinda Patch received several calls from passersby who saw the aftermath of a single vehicle accident shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, with the car striking a damaging a power pole. It was not immediately known if anyone was injured in the crash.

Orinda city officials said Friday that power was expected to be restored to the area by 2 p.m., but later said that PG&E crews need to "de-energize" the line in order to effect repairs and that a forced outage will impact approximately 450 residents in the area.
