"Big Cat" Moves From Moraga to Orinda

Another mountain lion sighting, folks. This time in Orinda.

Lamorinda Patch has never seen a mountain lion in the wild - but we'd sure like to.

There have been a couple of sightings of the elusive creatures in Lamorinda within the last three weeks, and another this morning in the hills above Ivy Drive in Orinda.

A few weeks back a Moraga resident looked up to see that tawny, muscular profile padding along Rheem Blvd. and police were called but these cats, well, they know how to hide.

There have been just enough sightings to lead us to believe there may be a lone cat using the ridgelands to traverse their territory without running into noisy humans.  And we all know the deer population would be enough to keep a cat full and happy for a good long while.

But at the same time they're wild animals, are better left alone, and should be admired - if seen at all - from afar.  It would be nice to think Campolindo High School's mascot was alive and well in our hills.
