Authorities Probe Car-Pedestrian Accident on Moraga Way

Woman struck in roadway was transported to Walnut Creek hospital.

Authorities are investigating a Wednesday night accident in which a car struck a pedestrian on Moraga Way near Oak Drive, Orinda.

The patient, a woman, was transported to a trauma center in Walnut Creek, said Darrell Lee, a division chief for the Moraga-Orinda Fire District. Orinda police are investigating, Lee said.

It appears the woman, wearing dark clothing, was running after a dog in the road when a small car struck her, said John Windle of Orinda, a motorist who happened upon the scene shortly after the accident around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Everything happened fast, Windle cautioned, and that might affect his impressions.

When he came upon the scene, the woman was lying on her back, with blood seeming to come from her head and left side. Windle went to his car, put on his four-way flashers, and retrieved a blanket and towel for the victim.

The driver of the car in the collision had stopped and was distraught, Windle said. Police and medics arrived quickly, he wrote in an email.
