Arrest Made in Lucas Court Residence Kidnapping Case

Lafayette Police Officers yesterday arrested 51-year-old Tod Morton of Walnut Creek on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, impersonating a police officer and carrying a firearm in his vehicle.
On Sunday, October 14, 2012, about 11:20 AM, Lafayette Police investigated a suspicious circumstance involving a handcuffed person who ran into an open garage of a residence on Lucas Court.
It was later determined that Morton had hired this person, a 42-year-old man, outside of a home improvement store in Concord.

Morton wanted the man to do some work at the Lucas Court residence where he was the caretaker.
Morton later impersonated a police officer and arrested and handcuffed the man. The man fled and police were called.

Morton was being held in lieu of $125,000 bail. He has since bailed out.
