Arrest Made in Lucas Court Residence Kidnapping Case

Lafayette Police Department press release from earlier today

Lafayette Police Officers yesterday arrested 51-year-old Tod Morton of Walnut Creek on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, impersonating a police officer and carrying a firearm in his vehicle.

On Sunday, October 14, 2012, about 11:20 AM, Lafayette Police investigated a suspicious circumstance involving a handcuffed person who ran into an open garage of a residence on Lucas Court.

It was later determined that Morton had hired this person, a 42-year-old man, outside of a home improvement store in Concord.

Morton wanted the man to do some work at the Lucas Court residence where he was the caretaker.

Morton later impersonated a police officer and arrested and handcuffed the man. The man fled and police were called.

Morton was being held in lieu of $125,000 bail. He has since bailed out.

The Lafayette Police Department is continuing to investigate this case. Anyone with any information is asked to call (925) 283-3680.

Utterly bizarre.

Well, judging by the lack of response, 1 in 3.5 hours, this must not be all that unusual in Lafayette. Or is it the Giants game? Or has this blog simply become less interesting?

Tod is death in German. Tod, are you sure your parents didn't have Todd in mind? Or maybe Thad?

I once handcuffed my wife and impersonated a police officer. However, our therapist had recommended the role-play to improve our intimacy. Perhaps the perpetrator didn't feel like he was really "connecting" with the day-laborer and thus resorted to similar tactics?

Very interesting abe. What was step two if step one didn't work?

Unbelievably inappropriate comment from the Sausage King of Chicago!

Step Two involved a " trust excercise" where we each had chain saws and then passed them to each other while blindfolded. It seemed like it would work, but on the other hand...oh wait, I shouldn't use that expression given the accident.

Love slave? Didn't Dahmer do this? I hope somebody checks the refrigerator and freezer.

"Man Hears Debate, Gets Confused": Dude. No. Binders as in notebooks, not handcuffs. And, he was talking about women.

Todd grew up on our street. he was a white kid with an afro and liked his train set.....maybe he was trying to arrest the worker for stealing and before he could call the cops, the worker escaped and called the cops. Did he have a red rubber ball in his mouth, that might change things.....
