What Would You Like to See at the Former Blackie's Restaurant?

Is this vacant Old Town site a gem or a doomed property?

It's been a long time since Blackie's served burgers and fried chicken across the street from Fernandez Park. The empty building, and the ones adjacent to it, are seemingly both an eyesore and a choice location for a new occupant.

The Old Town spot, at the intersection of Tennent Avenue and Park Street, seems ideally suited to enjoy and exploit the public events that take place near the park that hosts many community events. Its proximity to the Pinole Community Playhouse can't hurt, and  there's a fair amount of car and foot traffic in the area.

So, what would you like to replace the former family-owned restaurant? A new restaurant? Housing? Office space? Mixed-use, multi-story? Share your ideas in the comments box below.

That place has so many nostalgic memories for me. Pinole certainly has its’ fair share of neighborhood restaurants, but I would love to see an energetic, talented chef, take over and create a first rate gastro-pub and micro-brewery. Either that or an internet café.

Both great suggestions, Redrock. I miss Blackie's, but it's a new era.

Ill never forget going to Blackies as a kid, but pinole does have quite a few resuraunts. I think it would be nice to have a store there dedicated to out door activities. With the high school right down the road, and the baseball field right across the street there could be some benefits.

One of the things I miss, living in Pinole is that you can't get a decent pizza here. We need to attract a " pizza my heart" or a " lanesplitter". both small chains with better than average product. The best thin crust pizza place I've ever found to date is Gaspare's in San Rafael and one in SF. They're interested in franchising ( as per my conversation with the son in SR so if anyone is interested. If I was in the position to do it, I know it would be a goldmine.

Tony, have you tried Neto's Pizza on Pinole Valley Road? It's a relatively new family-owned business that also serves homemade pasta dishes. http://pinole.patch.com/listings/netos-pizza
