Our Yardwaste is NOT being composted; Instead its all going to landfill!

I am an Orinda resident and I work for the California Compost Coalition. I just found out through my job that all of the yard waste Lamorinda residents put in our green bins each week is NOT being composted, but instead is going to the landfill to cover the daily garbage!  This realization is based on publically available documentation that our Solid Waste Authority sends to the State Agency, CalRecycle. Republic Services is supposed to be composting our yard clippings and now the same company is being recommended for another 10 year contract.  Please email our city leaders and ask them to investigate why Republic is NOT composting our yard waste and instead taking it to the landfill.  We should hold off giving them another sweetheart contract until we get answers to these questions.
