Dear Editor:
I would like to set the record straight. The Moraga School Board got a parcel tax approved for $325 in perpetuity with provision for a Senior exemption if their income was $20,000 or less (This is the State poverty level).
The current parcel tax for $225 in perpetuity also includes an exemption for Seniors, if a Senior's income is $32,350, and for a Senior couple with an income of $36,950.
There is no one who owns a home in Moraga and pays Income and property
taxes, utilities, food and clothing, gas and auto maintenance, insurance and
medication expenses that could live in Moraga on the income level set by
the MSB.
This is not only discrimination but un-American. So, no Seniors could ever qualify for the parcel exemption.
And that is the way it is.
