Obituary: William McCabe, Former Owner Of The Roundup Saloon

The well-known Lafayette business community member died last week at his home in Soquel

William Marsh McCabe, a resident of Soquel, purchased the Roundup Saloon in Lafayette in 1980 and operated it for 24 years.

He was born in Detroit and was raised in San Mateo. He earned a business degree from the University of Portland, Oregon.

McCabe served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968.

After the war, he moved his family to Alamo for 10 years. McCabe worked in retail and real estate before buying the Roundup.

In 1987, he purchased the Hayshed Basin Ranch near Covelo, California, and operated a 1,300-acre cattle and sheep ranch there.

McCabe served on the board of directors of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Rotary and Lion's clubs.

McCabe died on Nov. 26 at the age of 72.
