Lamorinda Death Notices

Some of the people with ties to Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda who passed away recently

Mary Ann Reed, a resident of Lafayette, was born in Montana and received a bachelor of science degree in medical records administration from Seattle University. She worked at San Francisco General Hospital for 38 years. Reed and her husband moved to Lafayette in 1970. The couple hosted weekly Monday Night Football parties as well as an annual Christmas Eve celebration. Reed died on Sept. 28 at the age of 82.

Helen Nielsen, a resident of Orinda, was born in Denver. Her family moved to the East Bay after World War II. Nielsen worked for 30 years as the head administrator for all Contra Costa County hospitals. She loved books, cooking, crossword puzzles and traveling. In the 1980s, she volunteered to be a guinea pig for a new breast cancer treatment that not only saved her life but the life of thousands of other women. Nielsen died on recently at the age of 88.
