The BMX park

  1. “Here, denuding a hillside and leaving it that way, subject to weather and rainfall, and the rigor of bike usage, clearly invites immitigable water quality, biological, habitat, and air quality impacts.”
  2. When I surveyed some Acalanes high school students recently, they were all opposed to the BMX Park. In fact, one 15 year old said that some of his best memories of growing up in Lafayette are spending quality time in the beautiful open spaces.”

3- “If you believe the "bike park" will be built with donations, grants and development fees then please, peel the onion. You will realize that the grants and donations are a very small, miniscule amount. It is only a selling point to get this project through! “

“it is your tax money collected from development fees ordinances, money that can be utilized for other priorities within the Parks and Recreation.

“4.“There is already another unattractive and underused roller hockey ring within the park catering to kids, “ at a price tag of 1.25 million dollars.

5.“ serve an extremely limited portion of the citizenry ,decimate”, violation of the general plan,”

6,“park is for all ages, including adults “

7.“To see the last bit of natural bush in our neighborhood be destroyed for the sake of a few cyclists is a criminal tragedy “.

8.“It I a treasure not to be squandered”

 9. “Please understand that this park is for all ages, including adults who want a little bit of nature and some peace and quiet while strolling/running/cycling/walking our dogs within the interior of this park.  It's all that's left for us. “

10.“I do hope you can prevent this project from ruining our beautiful park, and instead reallocate those precious dollars to improving the quality of the park facilities and fields that we already have.”

11“In this time of limited resources both financial and environmental, installing a BMX park is short sighted and bears a price that we cannot support”

12I walk in the park every day as do many of my neighbors and friends. It is one of the most beautiful open areas. I feel that a bike park would change the face of the open space from natural and beautiful to an eyesore

13“Our son attended Burton Valley Elementary, Stanley Middle School and Campolindo High School, using his BMX bike as his main transportation vehicle. When I asked him if we needed a BMX Park, he asked "What for?"

 14.“put it on the ballot”

"How many BMX riders are there in Lafayette? I see we already built the skating rink that hardly anyone uses?” a Councilman asked Parks and Rec director Ms. Russell at the last meeting.

She replied, "I do not know. I still get lots of e-mails.”  The only input being considered is from Hilride Progression Development and a small group of supporters and all the hand picked people who are part of the park council.
