Next Two Days Busy At Bay Area Airports

Officials expect Monday to be busier than Tuesday at San Francisco airport while travel spread out at Oakland and San Jose

With Christmas just a couple of days away, holiday travel is in full swing at Bay Area airports.

At San Francisco International Airport, duty manager Chuck Navigante said this week is expected to be busy, with more than 130,000 travelers going into and out of the airport on Monday.

Monday is projected to have heavier foot traffic at the airport than Christmas Eve, he said.

He said airport officials are watching for big snowstorms in the Northeast, but that there have been no weather-related delays or cancellations as of midday Monday.

Oakland International Airport spokesman Scott Winter said things are running smoothly at that airport today, with peak holiday travel spread out over several days before and after Christmas.

He said the airport has a festive feeling, with decorations at the gates and check-in areas.

Winter also said an Oaklandish pop-up store has opened temporarily, offering travelers the chance to pick up last-minute gifts with a local flavor. The Oakland-based apparel and accessory shop has been set up near Gate 25 in Terminal 2.

Travelers heading in and out of Mineta San Jose International Airport on Monday can likely expect on-time flights, spokeswoman Vicki Day said.

She said Christmas travel has been constant over the past few days and today, and that there are no major delays or other issues.
