UC Berkeley's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Offers Info Session on Lafayette Fall Classes

OLLI @Berkeley Introduces Fall 2013 Semester 
at Lafayette Info Session, September 12, 2013 

Continuing its year-round program of courses, speakers series and workshops for adults over 50, UC Berkeley’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI @Berkeley) is 
launching its Fall 2013 Semester with a free Info Session at the Lafayette Public Library and Learning Center.

On Thursday, September 12 from 3:00-4:30 pm, instructors of the Lafayette OLLI @Berkeley program will be present to introduce the sessions available in 
Lafayette and attendees can learn about the other OLLI programs and 
classes in Berkeley.

New Lafayette Classes Begin October 3

This fall OLLI @Berkeley offers two classes at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center on Thursdays beginning October 3 through early November. Film critic Michael Fox will screen and discuss the 2013 Oscar contenders for the best documentary feature films, and musicologist John Prescott will trace developments in classical music from the Middle Ages to today.

House September 10, Classes Begin September 30

In addition to the Lafayette Info Session, instructors of the classes held in Berkeley will introduce their upcoming courses on Tuesday September 10.

Beginning September 30 in 
Berkeley, the Berkeley Fall term includes
 classes on history, music, art, 
technology and ecology as well as activity workshops in areas such as writing, 
singing and pottery.

The history thread will explore England’s landscapes through the work of its great writers and artists, taught by noted author and lecturer Roger Housden, the noted author and lecturer. Professors Beverly Crawford and Christine Schoefer will analyze Germany before and after it was divided, and former national public affairs correspondent Larry Bensky will kick off a new series, “Leaders in Our Lifetime,” with an in-depth look at Nixon.

Fall 
Speaker Series Starts October 9

The Fall Speaker Series beginning Wednesday, October 9 in Berkeley, will include lectures on the recent Supreme Court decisions, storytelling, Sweden’s master painter, and social issues such as slavery and activism. All courses and lectures are available to OLLI @Berkeley members for a nominal course or lecture fee (and discounts are available when multiple courses are purchased) and lectures are free to members, with a $10 admission for the general public.

Membership is open to all adults over 50.
