Presentations Highlight Senior Health Expo in Orinda on  May 16

Nationally known TV personality and comedian Bob Sarlatte, who has appeared on  David Letterman over 20 times and is the longtime SF 49ers announcer. He will highlight the Lamorinda Senior Health Expo and Information Fair at the Orinda Community Center (28 Orinda Way) in Orinda on Friday, May 16 at 12:30 p.m.-4:30

The 6th Annual Lamorinda Senior Expo and Fair, organized by Senior Helpers of Contra Costa and co-sponsored by the Orinda and Moraga Recreation Departments, has a total of 10 different presentations including the keynote address by Sarlatte.

The fair is free and will include complimentary food and refreshments provided by Whole Foods Market while entertainment will be provided by the LaSalle Street Jazz Band. Reservations can be made by calling Senior Helpers at 925-376-9900 or going online at www.seniorhelpers.com/contracosta

Other speakers include Estate Planning Attorney Stefanie West, who will conduct a workshop on Advance Health Care Directives.  Police Detective Brian South of the Moraga Police Department will discuss the current scams and frauds targeting seniors and how best to avoid being duped.

Grace Liu of the Alzheimer’s Association will talk about the latest high tech solutions including monitoring devices for seniors to keep them safe in their own homes.

The local HICAP agency will have a presentation on Medicare and how to ensure a senior is getting all the benefits for which they are due.  Dr. Eric Freitag of the Mt. Diablo Memory Center will provide insights on the differences between normal aging vs. dementia. Adam Rine of Hospice of the East Bay will talk about end of life challenges and new advances in palliative care.  Lafayette Physical Therapy will have a workshop on exercise to improve balance. many other topics and vendors will be in attendance

In addition to the presentations there will be free blood pressure screening, balance and posture testing, blood glucose testing, free chiropractic exams, a body mass examination available for a nominal price, free dementia care videos are also available from Senior Helpers

“We moved our event this year to Orinda to provide better access from the freeway and expanded our senior fair this year to include more topics and believe there is something that will interest all seniors and their families,” said Kevin Reneau of Senior Helpers. “It’s a great event with free food and free prizes for those who attend.”
