“Looking Back, Moving Forward: Pass the Baton”

When: Saturday, January 26, 2013, 8:00 pm

Where: Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek CA

Winds Across the Bay has been educating and inspiring young musicians since 1993.  Originally aimed at advanced high-school age players (now called The Majors), WAB has expanded its vision in recent years to include a band aimed at Middle-School age players (The Minors) as well as one for absolute beginners (Recorder Brigade).  This concert will feature only The Majors in performance.

Conductor and co-founder Ray Iniguez has chosen this auspicious occasion to retire, and at this concert he will ‘pass the baton’ to his successor, long-time WAB Business Manager (and Bay Area sax pro and educator) Jamison Smeltz.

Concert will feature J. Eric Schmidt’s complete 4-movement  “Symphony of Prayer,”

John Barry’s “Somewhere in Time, ” Gustav Holst’s “Mars,” Niccolo Paganini’s “Moto Perpetuo” (featuring Brenda Iniguez on clarinet, and Smeltz on alto sax), Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, and will close with David R. Holsinger’s “Adagio,” which will include WAB alums from across its 20 year history.

There will be a brief reception following the performance.

Tickets are $12 and are available at the door.

Spring session begins Tuesday 1/29.  Rehearsals Tuesdays at De Anza HS, Recorder Brigade 5:15, Minors 6:00, Majors 7-9 pm.  Contact WABmgr@LMI.net or visit www.WindsAcrossTheBay.org.

A California Non-Profit (#68-0309243) since 1993.
