Saint Mary's College Presens Daniel Solorzano, Ph.D., Presents on Critical Race Theory

On February 20-21, 2013Professor Daniel Solorzano, a professor of social science and comparative education at UCLA, will be visiting SMC to talk with students, faculty, and staff about his research on Critical Race Theory, including his recent work on microaggression. Professor Solorzano is well known for his expertise in this and other diversity areas. A graduate of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles (a Christian Brothers school), he attended Saint Mary's College as a freshman before returning to Los Angeles to complete his education.


Professor Solorzano will deliver an address to the campus community on Wednesday evening (7:00-9:00 p.m.) in the Soda Center. This event will be open to the public.


Professor Solorzano's visit is sponsored by the Kalmanovitz School of Education. Co-sponsors include the Office of the Provost, the School of Liberal Arts, the Office of Undergraduate Academics, the Office of Graduate & Professional Studies,  and the departments of Anthropology, Communication, History, Modern Languages, Psychology, Sociology, and the Ethnic Studies, Liberal & Civic Studies, Women's Studies,Single Subject, Multiple Subject, Special Education, Educational Leadership, TESOL, and Graduate Counseling programs. The visit is made possible by generous grants from the College Committee on Inclusive Excellence, the Social Justice Coordinating Committee, and the Intercultural Center
