What: The world changes one person at a time. Is it your time to change the world? Jason Connell, executive director of Ignited Leadership — a dynamic Washington, D.C.-based human service organization dedicated to building a better world, one leader at a time — will challenge audience members to consider what it takes to truly make a difference in their communities and the world. Connell’s presentation "Changing the World 101" on Jan. 8, 2013 is part of Saint Mary's College of California’s January Term Speaker Series.
This year’s Jan Term theme is “Inspired” and youth leadership advocate Connell's inspirational address will offer realistic strategies for traveling and volunteering internationally, overcoming mental roadblocks like fear, doubt and emotional exhaustion; tips and tactics for acquiring corporate sponsorships and raising funds for projects; and how to know the difference between transformational actions that work in the developing world and those that don’t.
When: Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 7 p.m.

Background: January Term, or "Jan Term," for short, is an intensive four-week academic experience at Saint Mary’s College. A hallmark of the session is the Speaker Series, which brings provocative speakers from the worlds of art, politics, science and technology to the campus. During the day, visiting speakers meet with several classes and engage in lively roundtable discussions with students and in the evening they present their ideas to the entire community at a free public lecture.
