On Jan. 18, the three upstairs theatres at the Rheem Theatre were closed indefinitely due to ADA (American Disabilities Act) issues. The staircase elevator is no longer repairable and replacing it costs $30,000.00.

There are few ways to help out:

1-   Tax deductible donations can be written to:

Lamorinda Theatre Foundation

350 Park Street
Moraga, CA 94556
Attn: Elevator Lift Fund

2-   Become a major sponsor ($1000.00 to $5000.00) for the Oscar Party

3-   Attend the Oscar Party on Sunday Feb. 24th (flyer is attached)

4-   Donate to the Silent Auction for the Oscar Party, for example:

a. Use of a vacation house or cabin in Tahoe or Carmel for a weekend.

    b. Your professional services.

c. Tickets to sporting events.

d. Gift certificates for restaurants or stores.

    e. A piece of artwork.

Thank you for your support.

I think when Shelby's Restaurant in Orinda is helping out Moraga Rheem Theatre with the elevator fund it speaks volumes in where the town of Moraga restaurants and it's establishments are not stepping up to the plate and in my opinion they should. I don't understand that. What do you think? On a second thought I like to follow it up with a question to the New Rheem Owners, did they solicit help from Moraga Restaurants to sponsor the Oscar Event on February 24, 2013.

Hi Jon, Thank you for your comment. We are thankful for Shelby’s generous offer. I’m not the owner of the Rheem Theater, but I have been involved with this event. I would like to say that many restaurants and other businesses in Moraga have offered gift certificates and merchandise for our Silent Auction or as Door Prizes, and items for the gift bags which will be handed out to every person who will join the party on Feb. 24th. A few of the businesses in Lafayette and Orinda have helped as well with this fundraiser. This is not just about Moraga, Rheem Theater, or Orinda this is about Lamorinda and keeping this wonderful theater open and accessible to all. I hope you will join us on Feb. 24th for this delightful event.
