Behind the Mic - Simon Vance

The spoken audio book has been available since the 1930s, but it wasn't until the advent of the internet and portable media players that the popularity of audiobooks has significantly increased.

Join us to hear Simon Vance, award winning Narrator, as he describes the creative process behind this ever-popular medium! Simon will be interviewed by Jeff Peacock, LibriVox audio book contributor (LibriVox provides free audiobooks from the public domain).

Simon, a British actor and former BBC radio broadcaster, has recorded more than 600 audiobooks over the past 20 years. The Library Journal referred to him as "Probably the best narrator in the business." He has garnered multiple awards including six coveted 'Audie' awards (the 'Oscars' of the audiobook industry). He's particularly well-known for recording Steig Larsson's Millennium Trilogy (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, etc.) as well as all of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series and many of Dickens' and Trollope's classic novels. Simon will take us through some of the highlights of his career as an audiobook narrator, explain the process of narrating a book, AND include readings from some of his favorite novels.
