Final Vote Totals Are In: Moraga Parcel Tax Still Has Two-Thirds Needed

Measure B widened its margin slightly after provisional and other ballots were counted

The final vote totals appear to be in and Moraga's Measure B still has the two-thirds it needs to be approved.

The Contra Costa County Election Department updated its results Friday from Tuesday's election after counting the provisional and absentee ballots that were turned in at the polls.

The parcel tax measure ended up with 3,872 "yes" votes, or 68.2 percent of the ballots cast. The "no" votes were 1,802 or about 31.8 percent.

The margin of victory was slightly better than was announced on Tuesday night when the measure had 68 percent of the vote.

Measure B institutes a $192 per parcel tax over six years for people who live in the Moraga School District. It's expected to raise $1.1 million for the district each year.

Moraga residents have been paying a $325 per parcel tax since they approved Measure K in 2004. That raises $1.8 million a year and has no sunset clause.
