President's Day: What's Open, What's Closed

Feb. 18 is a national holiday, which means most government buildings and public schools are closed.

Monday, Feb. 18 is President's Day, a national holiday.

There will be no mail delivery on Monday. Federal and state offices will be closed, as will most banks.

City halls in Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga will be closed. There will be no reduction of regular police services and patrol.

Public schools throughout all three cities will be closed on Monday.

Most stores will be open, as will many restaurants, and more than a few department stores will undoubtedly use the holiday as an excuse for a sale.

So, if you have the day off, relax and enjoy it. If you are not a fan of the sitting president, take some time and reflect on one you did like. If you don't like any of them, you can always take in one of the sales.

I'll go with a sale. Most of our Presidents have been terrible. Nature of the job, I suppose.
