Neighbors in Orinda, Lafayette Report Power Outages

Fire-damaged equipment has left some Lamorinda residents in the dark.

Roughly 500 residents of Orinda and Lafayette are without power tonight as high demand and fire-damaged equipment have combined to create "spot outages" in both Lamorinda cities.

A Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesman confirmed the outages, some of which appear to be localized in the neighborhood surrounding Orinda Park Pool, and said crews are in the field working to restore power "as quickly as possible."

Moraga-Orinda Fire District firefighters responded to a small grass fire at the corner of Camino Pablo and El Toyonal Road this afternoon, quickly putting out a small fire in the area. The PG&E spokesman said it is believed the fire either damaged some of their equipment or their equipment failed and sparked the blaze.
