Miramonte's Jay Finlay Wanted a Horse For Her Graduation - She Got a 1953 Mercury Monterey

As graduation presents go a car can be hard to beat. Former Orinda resident Jay Finlay has kept the car her father bought her since 1959 - and she still drives it.

Great story in Wednesday's Vancouver Sun about a former Orinda resident who landed a pretty cool drop-top Mercury on her graduation day from Miramonte High School in 1959 - and who has been driving the car ever since.

The Sun was interested in Jay Finlay because the current Sun City West resident will be driving the Merc from her home outside Phoenix to Vancouver for the annual Good Times Cruise-In car show on Sept. 10.

Jay was 16 when her parents gave her the car for a graduation present on Memorial Day in 1959. She has put just a tad over 300,000 miles on it since then and likes to show it off from time to time at car shows.
