Locals Turn Out to Help Beautify Moraga Commons

Spring cleaning takes to the outdoors as Moraga residents get the commons ready for a summer of barbecue parties and romping children.

It’s a perfect spring day in Moraga. Residents who weren’t participating in the triathlon, watching a baseball or softball game, coaching or just getting out to the enjoy the sunshine gathered at the Moraga Commons to participate in the annual Moraga Beautiful day.

Girls Scouts, parents and seniors alike worked under the direction of Ruben Ochoa and others from the town’s public works and park departments. Their goal was simple – re-stain all the wood at the Moraga Commons.

Residents donned gloves, grabbed a pail and brush and headed out to stain the surprisingly numerous wooden structures at the Commons. Picnic benches near the toddler park, upper playground and above the statue at the top of the band shell hill needed their attention. Benches made of wood also required fresh stain.

Some benches at the Commons are made of recycled wood as are some garbage containers, however. Public works staff had labeled the recycled wood structures clearly to avoid the enthusiastic, but rather less-skilled brush brigade.
