EBMUD Manager Proposing Two 9 Percent Rate Hikes The Next Two Years

The board will hear the plan at its Tuesday meeting. It comes after 6 percent increases the past two years. What do you think?

The East Bay Municipal Utility District is proposing two rate hikes over the next two years that are larger than the two rate hikes the past two years.

EBMUD General Manager Alexander Coate will make the presentation to the agency's board of directors at its Tuesday meeting. The board is expected to vote on the plan at its June 11 meeting.

Coate is proposing a rate hike of 9.75 percent for 2014 and another 9.5 percent for 2015. EBMUD spokesman Charles Hardy said each rate increase would add about $4 to the monthly bill of an average customer.
