"Doc" Polse Returns Home To Lafayette Friday

Look for a homecoming in Lafayette as a local sailor returns home after a tour in Afghanistan with the 2/3 Marines. Polse served as a Navy corpsman.

Look for a veteran's escort, some flags and maybe a raised glass or two Friday as Lafayette resident David Polse returns home after a tour with the 2/3 Marines in Afghanistan.

Polse joined the Navy in July 2007 but "always wanted to be a Marine" and pursued an interest in emergency medicine in order to serve as a Navy Corpsman.

Polse grew up in Lafayette, and began his career in medicine as a firefighter. He did his undergraduate work at Sonora, then learned basic emergency medicine at the Fire Academy.

He hopes to pursue a career in medicine when he leaves the Navy.

Polse was selected junior sailor of the quarter for the fourth quarter 2009 by Naval Hospital 29 Palms. He was also named junior sailor of the year, received two letters of commendation, and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal along with his Fleet Marine Force pin.
