Veterinary Staff & Good Samaritan Work Together to Comfort Injured Deer

Thursday May 30th was Carla's first day as a new employee of Contra Costa Veterinary Hospital on Country Club Drive, when not more than 10 minutes into her first shift, her skills as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) came into play when a driver hit a deer on Moraga Road.

Angela Linvill, Hospital Administrator of Contra Costa Veterinary Hospital, was on her way to work when she noticed a small truck stopped in the middle of the Moraga Road and Alta Mesa intersection.  When she passed the vehicle, she immediately saw that the driver had hit a deer who was now living it’s final moments in pain and distress.

Quickly turning around and reaching for her phone, Angela called Contra Costa Veterinary Hospital and let them know that there was a deer badly injured in the middle of the road.  The practice manager of Contra Costa Veterinary Hospital, Tess, and Contra Costa Veterinary Hospital of Moraga’s newest employee, Carla immediately came to the aid of the deer (and a very nervous Angela).  What Angela and Tess did not know was that Carla has a fear of deer from a scary incident as a child. She was able to put her personal fears aside, to join the group in trying to help the injured deer.

By now, Farshid Chamanpardaz of the Valero Gas Station (1410 Moraga Road, Moraga) rushed out to help calm and soothe the deer.  Farshid held the back of the deer to keep her from kicking and injuring Angela, Tess, or Carla.

With the aid of this Great Samaritan Farshid, Angela, Tess, and Carla were able to safely control the deer and end her suffering.

Contra Costa Veterinary Hospital would like to extend it’s gratitude to Mr. Farshid Champanpardaz of Valero Gas.  His exemplification of courage, kindness and humanity towards the wildlife and people of Moraga will always be appreciated by us.  Thank you!
