YMCA of the East Bay Healthy Kids Day 2014 Sees 50% Increase in Participation from Last Year

[East Bay Area, CA, May 1, 2014] – The YMCA of the East Bay today announced that their April 26 Healthy Kids Day® festivities, a series of community events for kids and families at their Oakland, Richmond and Fremont/Newark locations, drew over 50% more participants this year than last. 

“We are especially pleased with the increase in participants this year throughout the East Bay Y facilities.  Thanks to the efforts of all our participants and volunteers, guided by our dedicated and experienced Y staff, we amplified participation and provided a healthy, fun and educational experience for the communities,” said Robert Wilkins, President & CEO of the YMCA of the East Bay.

More than 1,200 Y members and community participants celebrated Healthy Kids Day® by participating in circuit exercise stations, family fitness classes, jumpers, a triathlon, informational health fairs and more.

Community partners included Lifelong (who performed blood pressure checks), Oakland Children’s HospitalThe Oakland MuseumEast Bay Regional Parks, Lifelong, YMCA Camping Services, the Oakland Library (with a book giveaway), Fremont Healthy Start InitiativeTri-City HealthKaiser PermanenteMaster Gardener (with a tomato plant giveaway) and more.

As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day (a national Y initiative) to teach healthy habits and inspire a lifetime love of being healthy from head to toe. The Y aims to build on the incredible potential inside each and every kid.
