What Should Go Here?: The Former Hen House Building

The aging shop on Lafayette Circle in Lafayette has been empty since June

It has sat vacant, crumbling away, on a prime business parcel in Lafayette since June.

The former Hen House building on Lafayette Circle was vacated six months ago by its owner, a woman known as La Contessa.

She cited as her primary reason for leaving the condition of the facility built in the 1800s.

What do you think should replace the Hen House on that busy street? Let us know in the comments section.

Lafayette City Manager Steven Falk said the city's Downtown Specific Plan calls for a small park on that parcel and the parking lot behind it.

Falk said the city contacted the property owner after the building was vacated, but they indicated they weren't interested in selling the land to the city. They instead are looking for a new tenant.
