The Hen House Says Goodbye

The Hen House, a home and fashion store located on Lafayette Circle since 2001, has closed its doors. The age and condition of the building was cited as the reason.

"The building we are housed in is from the 1800′s," said the owner, who goes by the name La Contessa, on her website. "There has been noi maintenance in the 12 years I have been there. Unfortunatley, the building is hanging on by a thread and I do not want to be inside when it decides its old bones cannot hold its self together anymore."

La Contessa said that she is considering a blend of on line sales and perhaps a pop up shop in the near future.

The store featured an array of antiques, home furnishings and clothing "in varying stages of decay," according to the website.

La Contessa said goodbye to a number of long-time customers, to whom she gave names such as "Danville Diva," "Polish Painter," "Baroness," and "Walnut Creek European Cafe Owner."
