New Bizz Buzz: The Goldfish Bowl

Local interest in local business runs high around these parts. Our "places" directory is home to thousands of businesses, but the "Goldfish Bowl" is our effort to connect with new businesses just arriving in the area.

Patch is very interested in what local businesses are up to. And Patch readers appear to be just as interested, if not more so.

Our "Places" directory is home to thousands of local businesses, and their owners are able to place the very latest information on hours, services, and sales once they "claim" their listings on the site. If you have a local business you want people to know about, it is very important that you add your listing here.

We've also noticed some folks trying to game us just a little bit by slipping thinly disguised ads for sales or services in our Announcements or Events interfaces. A reminder, those two entries to Lamorinda Patch are designed for a more pro bono look and feel than they are to promote your "dollar off" sale!

"Promotions" does not mean listing information on said sale, it means providing information about a new executive vice president in your company.

But checking the weekend email I see a lot of inquiries from people just starting up businesses or new in town, all looking for ways to promote their business and get the word out about their services. Advertising with us is an excellent way to reach thousands of your new neighbors, and I refer you to our crack advertising manager to get that done, but if the information you have isn't exactly suited to an ad, drop me a line here at the control room.

To help with this I've started the "Patch Goldfish Bowl," a throwback (maybe they still do it, I'm not sure) to the days when chambers or local service groups used to call on new business owners to throw their business cards into the goldfish bowl at chamber mixers -- for a raffle prize, maybe, but mainly to connect.

So here's our Goldfish Bowl, new business owners. If you want to drop in your contact information, just write me here. Remember, this isn't for self-promotional copy or advertorial language, it's information about your business that other Lamorindans will be interested in hearing.

Okay? Here you go. Welcome to the Goldfish Bowl... send your info to me directly.
