When I walked into Lisa Colhoun Design Company recently to say hello and write a profile of her popular business, the first thing she did ask me to sit down while she waxed the single hair between my eyebrows, which I call the unicorn.
Lisa Colhoun is not shy.
In fact, she said she considers each hairstyle she does a performance.
“It’s performance art,” she said. “When I was four, my mother would take me to the beauty salon. I was fascinated by Fawn, the stylist, who would take the rollers out. I was fascinated by the architecture of that.”
Colhoun pursued her fascination into a career that has been quite successful. She has operated her shop in the same location, next door to the Rheem Theatre in Moraga, for nearly 20 years.
“I’m an expert master colorist,” she said. But her real forte is working with curly hair. She is a specialist with Deva Curl haircuts, for women with curly hair.
“I have clients that come from all over the state,” she said.
And that gives her plenty of opportunities to perform.
