Maybe its our "small town" ways but it seems that certain rumors tend to take root and flower really quickly here in Lamorinda.
In Moraga, the most pressing question received here at Lamorinda Patch does not deal with the favorites for town council or the state of our roads, but whether McDonalds is building its trillionth outlet on the site of the former Shell station on Moraga Way.
That the as the rumor swells of a vs. scenario evolving in Moraga grows and grows. We get about three questions a week on the matter, still.
With this sort of single-minded devotion to rumor -- no matter how wild -- displayed here, it is easy to understand how the latest suburban legend, this one centered in Lafayette, could take off and grow.
The Rumor: That a Hooters restaurant, the first-to-market leader of the so-called "breastaurant wars," is coming to the old Fuz/Lafayette Sports Bar & Grill location at 3707 Mt. Diablo Blvd.
Now, stranger things have happened. I mean, who would have thought that Lafayette would be battling an -- the Happy Ending kind -- in town? And we are still hearing of a couple of local housewives who are peddling their -- services -- to a supposedly deep-pocketed clientele around the city.
But in this case we think the Hooters rumor can be tied to a bored worker who, tired of answering the question of "So, what's going in here?" from inquisitive passersby, came up with the wildest thing he could think of and -- wham-o! We have liftoff.
It probably won't do any good but for the record the city's planning director, Niroop Srivatsa, told Patch that Kelly Moore Paint has leased the building formerly occupied by Fuz and will be occupying the portion fronting the boulevard with an as-yet unnamed restaurant possibly occupying the rest of the building on a sublease basis.
We'll wait to see if the restaurant is a Hooters but we don't think so -- too much competition from the massage parlors down the street.
Unless you are in a City that attracts a large population of aspiring actresses (LA) or beauty queens (Dallas/Austin) it is like being served by your teenaged daughter in a tight shirt. Creepy.
In this area, I can't imagine it being successful. In this market I think you need to serve either the "no one wants to cook, lets take the kids out to eat" segment or the "(near) big City quality, without the drive" segment. What about Fentons?
I was seriously thinking about pricing out such a sign to hang at the former Hungry Hunter location. Ah well.
