Spare the Air Alert Issued for Wednesday

Burning wood either indoors or outdoors will be illegal all day Wednesday.

Weather conditions have led to unhealthy air quality in the Bay Area and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued the region's 13th Winter Spare the Air Alert of the season.

Wood-burning fires of any sort will be illegal all day Wednesday.

District officials said that the recent chill has contributed to still weather patterns, where air near the ground is cooled and a layer of warmer air is created at higher elevations, trapping pollutants and making it difficult for people with respiratory issues to breathe.
