Sunday Singalong - Werewolves of London

Is there a better song to celebrate the spirit of Halloween?

Written by Warren Zevon, Waddy Watchel and Leroy Marinell, "Werewolves of London" was released in 1978 on Zevon's "Exciteable Boy" album. The song is probably Zevon's best known work.

It captures a sound and spirit of a time that saw rock almost sinking into history, being replaced by the burgeoning disco craze and, very shortly, punk. But there were still hit makers playing serious rock and roll, and Zevon was among them, writing sharp songs with biting lyrics (pun perhaps intended). And if this particular track sounds a little familiar to those of you around in those days, perhaps it's because the drummer is Mick Fleetwood and the bass player is John McVie, both of whom were the foundation for the then-supergroup Fleetwood Mac.

Have a very happy Halloween, and stay away from werewolves. Even if their hair is perfect.

"And his hair was perfect." Great memories of KFOG when it was the Jive 95.

I was excited to read the original Mad Monster Party was being released to DVD, first time I can recall hearing Monster Mash :)

KFOG was never the Jive 95. That was the legendary KSAN. Zevon cut a version called Werewolves of KSAN with a line "I saw Bonnie Simmons walking with the Queen"

@warfrat - yeah, you're right. I realized that about half an hour after I posted when I caught myself singing that promo they used to run sung by an acappella group: "KSAN Saaannn Fransicso radio..."

Bonnie Simmons was/is, for me, one of the greatest voices in radio. KSAN was a slice of pure heaven. It's a shame radio went the other way.
