A Moment With Gramps at Lafayette's Ye Olde Fishing Hole

On inaugural fishing trip with grampa, six-year-old boy from Martinez casts his line -- and learns a thing or two about fishing -- at the Lafayette Reservoir.

Jered Lippman looked intense as he cast his line with the optimism born into most 6-year-olds one recent afternoon at the Lafayette Reservoir. Supplying the pointers -- and the equipment -- was his grandfather, Stephan Seable, who drove down from his retirement home in Grants Pass, Ore., to spend time with the lad.

Anything biting, Patch had to ask?  "No," replied the elder angler. "I had hoped to buy fresh bait at the office, but they were closed when we arrived. So we are making do with artificial lures from my tackle box."

Although dusk was rapidly settling as we left the Rez, Jered continued to toss his line into the water from the dock. "I know the fish are there," he declared, tugging on the bill of his knit cap.
