Work On Orinda Sinkhole Repairs Nearing Completion

Pipeline is now in place underneath Tarabrook Drive

Repairs on storm damage from last December's rains is nearing an end on Tarabrook Drive in Orinda.

City officials report a 36-inch concrete pipeline is now underneath the road southeast of downtown Orinda.

The pipe is connected at both ends to the neighborhood creek and water is flowing through it.

There is still some grading, paving and landscaping work to do. City officials said that final phase of the project should be completed in about two weeks.

The original storm drain was damaged in early December last year. A sinkhole formed as ground collapsed around the pipe.

Pumps have been used the past 11 months to divert water around the damaged area.

The city hired Bay Pacific Pipelines in late August to replace the storm drain. The crew has been working out a 25-foot-deep pit near Tarabrook and Evergreen.
