Will Budgetary Woes End Orinda's Fourth of July Parade? Naw...

Merchants in Orinda were checking their pockets for loose change Wednesday after talk surfaced that a $7,000 shortfall might spell an end for the city's Independence Day parade.

Orinda's Fourth of July parade, a fixture in the city since the early 80s, was reportedly in doubt after city staff indicated that money needed to pay for police services during the event may not be immediately available.

The news surfaced Wednesday, with the city's business leaders expressing consternation and hope that additional funds could be found to keep the parade up and running. The money, it was said, was needed to pay police for traffic control and police services on parade day.
