Where In Lamorinda Is This Stone Marker?

Have you seen this pillar with "1920" carved into it in your travels around the area?

Where is this 93-year-old pillar?

It's an important part of Lamorinda history, but most people probably don't notice it as they zoom past.

The stone marker with "1920" chiseled into it sits near a heavily traveled intersection in Lamorinda.

Have you seen it? Do you remember where it is?

At the corner of Orinda Way and Camino Pablo.

Chris, nicely done! That marker is on the short bridge that crosses San Pablo Creek in Orinda Village... and, yes, it was built in 1920. There's a neat photo of what that area looked like in 1924 in this Lamorinda Weekly story from 2009... http://www.lamorindaweekly.com/archive/issue0310/Orinda-Historical-Society-Restores-Bridge.html

This stone marker pictured is at the northern end of Orinda Way. The year 1920 is engraved in stone structures associated with the ends of this small bridge. The shop Penny Lane is nearby. So is the Orinda County Club. Perhaps in 2020 (about six years from now) there will be a 100th anniversary celebration of the bridge's existence. --Richard Colman, Orinda, California.
