Walnut Creek Candlelight Vigil Tonight For Victims

A local resident has organized a downtown gathering to pay respects to the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut Friday.

Walnut Creek resident Ashliegh Montgomery has organized a candlelight vigil in Walnut Creek tonight (Friday, Dec. 14) to pay tribute to the victims and families of the shooting in Newtown, Conn., this morning.

"I know we are all hurting right now, and it just feels right to try and do whatever action we can — no matter how small it may be," Montgomery said. "In the midst of such confusion, pain, and grief, I think it's good to try to remind people that our hearts are broken, but our spirits are not. The candlelight vigil is to be in solidarity with, and to show our condolences for the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting this morning."

The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. at Walnut Creek City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.

Parking Options: Broadway Parking Garage, Dean Lesher Parking Garage, Civic Park (across the street from the City Hall building), street parking. There is no parking allowed at City Hall.

What to Bring: Candle (these will not be provided so please bring your own if you would like to have one there). Please do not obstruct car or foot traffic, and do not leave any kind of a mess.
