The Week Ahead: Terraces Hearing, Orinda Housing Element, Girl Scout Camp Hike

Some of the meetings and activities happening in the Lamorinda area this week

On Monday afternoon, the Moraga Climate Action Plan Task Force will hold one of its final meetings at 4 p.m. in the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

The group has been identifying options for Moraga to reduces its greenhouse gas emissions.

On Monday evening, 
the Moraga Town Council will hold a special meeting.

On the agenda is a closed session to discuss a performance evaluation for the town manager. An open session is scheduled afterward to announce any action.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 329 Rheem Blvd.

Also on Monday evening,
the Lafayette Design Review Commission will discuss plans for The Terraces apartment complex on Deer Hill Road.

The project would create 315 apartments in 14 buildings. It would require the removal of 92 trees and 500,000 cubic yards of dirt.

The commission will also a request to place a wireless communication facility consisting of six panel antennas on top of St. Perpetua Church on Hamlin Road.

Both projects would need approval from other commissions.

The Design Review Commission meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

On Tuesday, a "least toxic pest control" workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hacienda De Las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive in Moraga.

Parents for a Safer Environment will discuss ways to use less toxic methods to control pests and weeds.

On Tuesday evening, a free workshop on Baby Boomers' health care will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

The seminar will focus on what Baby Boomers need to know about Medicare and long-term health care.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Orinda City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

On the agenda is a review of the fourth draft of the Orinda Housing Element.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, 26 Orinda Way.

On Wednesday evening, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will hold a workshop on possible staffing models for the future.

Interim Fire Chief Stephen Healy will present options on staffing fire stations in light of the district's budget restrictions.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Moraga Library Community Center, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Acalanes Union High School District board of education will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the district office's community room, 1212 Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette.

On the agenda are budget revisions and a public hearing on the sufficiency of textbooks and classroom materials for students.

On Thursday evening, a welcome meeting will be held for the Livable Moraga Road project.

The gathering will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive.

On Friday morning, a blood drive will be held, beginning at 8:15 a.m. at Burton Valley Elementary School in Lafayette.

On Friday evening, the premiere of the film "Assault on El Capitan" will be shown at 8 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

The film details an attempt to scale the most dangerous climbing route in Yosemite National Park.

On Saturday morning, a hike-a-thon to raise money to preserve the Twin Canyon Girl Scout Camp in Lafayette will be held.

The event is from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Camp Twin Canyon, adjacent to Briones Regional Park.

There are one-hour and two-hour hikes. Participants must be at least 12 years old.

Also on Saturday morning, the Lafayette Nursery School will hold its 60th anniversary celebration.

Alumni are invited to attend the festivities at the school, located at 979 First St.

On Sunday, the 4th Annual Olive Festival will be held, beginning at 1 p.m. at Wagner Ranch Nature Area, 350 Camino Pablo in Orinda.

The event raises money for outdoor education for children. They'll be cooking demonstrations, olive tasting, music and art.
