The Week Ahead: School Meetings, Star Gazing, College Inaugural

Some of the activities and meetings happening this week in the Lamorinda area

On Monday evening, the Orinda Union School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

It begins at 6 p.m. at the District Office Conference Room B, 25 Orinda Way, Suite 200.

On the agenda is a discussion of the district's goals for 2013-2014 as well as a public hearing on the sufficiency of textbooks and instructional materials for Orinda students.

On Tuesday evening, the Moraga School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

It begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School auditorium, 1010 Camino Pablo.

On the agenda is proposed policies for discipline, suspension, expulsion and student records.

Also on Tuesday evening, an astronomy program will be presented in Moraga.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

The Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society will help participants see stars, galaxies and clusters through members' telescopes.

On Wednesday evening, the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce will hold a mixer beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

Also on Wednesday evening, a seminar on surviving homework will be held in Lafayette.

The discussion on organization, planning and time management begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

It's sponsored by Special Parents Special Kids as well as Parents of Orinda Individuals in Special Education.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Moraga Town Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

It begins at 7 p.m. at the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School auditorium 1010 Camino Pablo.

On the agenda is discussion of Moraga's 40th anniversary celebration to be held next year.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Lafayette School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

It begins at 7 p.m. at the Stanley Middle School library, 3455 School St.

On the agenda is a public hearing on the agreement reached between the California School Employees Association and the district.

On Thursday evening, the second in a series of community workshops organized by Moraga Citizens Network will be held.

The Community Leadership Series discussion will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Serbian Cultural Center, 1700 School St.

The topic will be "Cultivating a Vision Within Your Organization and Connecting the Dots with Possible Partners."

On Friday afternoon, St. Mary's College in Moraga will hold an inauguration ceremony for its new president.

The inaugural for James Donahue will be at 3 p.m. on the Chapel Lawn.

On Friday evening, the Lamorinda Democratic Club will host a discussion on science, technology, engineering and math in California.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

On Saturday morning, a safety fair will be held in Lafayette.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Stanley Middle School, 3455 School St.

They'll be demonstrations on fire extinguisher use, bicycle safety, child car seat installations and other activities.

Law enforcement authorities as well as the American Red Cross and the Community Emergency Response Team will be there.
