The Week Ahead: Parcel Tax Election, Orinda Preschool, Fire District Finances, Film Festival

Some of the meetings and events happening this week in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda

On Monday evening, the Orinda Union School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the district offices, 25 Orinda Way, Suite 200.

On the agenda is an energy audit report as well as a facilities task force report.

Also on Monday evening, a Lafayette Creeks Workshop will be held.

The meeting is from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Community Hall, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

On the agenda is creek restoration and planning.

On Tuesday, Moraga School District residents will vote on a proposed parcel tax.

Measure B would institute a $192 per parcel tax for the next six years, raising about $1.1 million per year.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Tuesday evening, the Orinda City Council will hold its regular meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Orinda Library, 26 Orinda Way.

On the agenda is a public hearing on an appeal of the Planning Commission’s approval of plans to construct a two-story building at 10 Avenida de Orinda that will include a preschool and retail stores.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Campolindo Kids Cheer Camp will be held.

The event begins at 3:45 p.m. at Campolindo High School, 300 Moraga Road, Moraga. Cost is $80.

On Wednesday evening, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District board of directors will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Moraga Library Community Room, 1500 St. Mary’s Road.

On the agenda is discussion of a financial report that shows that district has depleted its general fund reserve as well as an ordinance revising the schedule of fees for district services.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Acalanes Union High School District board of education will hold its regular meeting.

The meeting begins about 7:30 p.m. in the community room at the district offices, 1212 Pleasant Hill Road, Lafayette.

On the agenda is ratification of a proposed agreement between the district and employees belonging to SEIU Local 1021.

On Thursday evening, the California Independent Film Festival will begin.

Film will be shown at the New Rheem Theatre in Moraga and the Orinda Theatre in downtown Orinda.

The festival runs through Sunday.

Also on Thursday evening, a chief executive officer will speak on responsible leadership.

The talk by Paul Gaffney, CEO of AAA Northern California, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s College, 1928 St. Mary’s Road, Moraga.

Also on Thursday evening, a panel will discuss the basics of self publishing books, poetry and other literature.

The discussion of Self Publishing 101 begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

Also on Thursday evening, classic guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary’s Road.
