The Week Ahead: Lafayette Smoking Restrictions, Halloween Puppets, Celtic Concert

Some of the events and meetings happening this week in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda

On Monday evening, the Lafayette Design Review Commission will hold its regular meeting.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the community hall of the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

On the agenda is a continued public hearing on The Terraces project at the corner of Deer Hill Road and Pleasant Hill Road.

According to the city manager's Friday report, the developer has scaled back the project from 315 to 208 apartments. The new plan also reduces the number of parking space from 569 to 375.

Also on Monday evening, the Lafayette City Council will hold its regular meeting.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Art & Science Discovery Center in the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

On the agenda is a public hearing on a proposed ordinance to prohibit smoking in more areas of the city, including multi-family housing projects, outdoor public areas, public events and outdoor dining areas.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Halloween puppet show will be held at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

The show begins at 4 p.m. and features the Winnie the Witch black light performance. 

On Tuesday evening, the Livable Moraga Road organization will hold a public workshop.

The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive, Moraga.

The focus is ways to improve this major transportation corridor.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Orinda Planning Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Founders Auditorium in the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way.

On the agenda is a public on the city's proposed housing element.

Also on Tuesday evening, Mollie Katzen will present vegetarian recipes for a new generation.

The seminar begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3941 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

On Wednesday afternoon, a new photography show opens at the Moraga Art Gallery, 522 Center St.

"Capturing Light: Lens And Glass" debuts with an opening reception at 3 p.m.

On Friday evening, Houston Jones and Stevie Coyle will perform at Lamorinda Music, 81 Lafayette Circle in Lafayette.

The folk and bluegrass concert begins at 8 p.m.

On Saturday morning, Lafayette Juniors will hold their 20th annual rummage sale.

The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, 20 Knox Drive in Lafayette.

Also on Saturday morning, the Orinda Community Center Auxiliary will hold its 37th annual holiday bazaar.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way.

On Saturday evening, a concert to celebrate the Celtic New Year will be held in Lafayette.

The group "Four Shillings Short" begins performing at 8 p.m. at Mighty Fine Guitars, 85 Lafayette Circle.
