The Week Ahead: Free Film Preview, iPhone Workshops, Jazz Piano Concert

Some of the meetings and events happening this week in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda

On Monday evening, the Lafayette CLASSICS Book Club will have its monthly gathering.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the teen center at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

This month's book selection is "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka.

On Tuesday morning, a holiday fashion show will be held in Moraga.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at Lovely Holy Trinity Serbian Church Cultural Center, 1700 School St.

On Tuesday evening, the Lafayette City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the community hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

On the agenda are public hearings on municipal codes involving business registration, state video service franchises and project procedures.

Also on Tuesday evening, the California Independent Film Festival will offer a sneak peek of this year's film.

The preview will be shown at 7 p.m. at The New Rheem Theater, 350 Park St., Moraga. Admission is free.

On Wednesday evening, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will hold its second community workshop on this year's budget.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way.

The district board of directors heard community comments on the district's financial situation at the first workshop in Moraga early this month.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Acalanes Union High School District board of governors will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. No agenda has been posted yet.

On Thursday morning, a historical walking tour of Orinda will be held.

The two-hour tour begins at 9 a.m. It's sponsored by the Orinda Historical Society.

On Thursday evening, the Orinda Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly mixer.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at Land Home Financial Services, 2 Theatre Square, #146.

Also on Thursday evening, the 11th Annual Richard C. Hall Choral Classic Festivals and Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive.

On Friday morning, a workshop on iPhone technology will be held.

The 90-minute classes are at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 28 Alta Vista Drive in Orinda.

Cost is $35 for one session and $60 for two. The workshops are a fundraiser for the American Association of University Women.

On Friday afternoon, a jazz piano concert will be held in Lafayette.

The Autumn Leaves concert begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

On Saturday morning, an architects cafe will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

Architects will be on hand for personalized appointments to discuss design and renovation plans for homes.

The appointments begin at 8 a.m.
