Orinda Haunted House Ends Successful, Scary Run

The exhibit in Theatre Square brought in money, donated food for the Solano-Contra Costa Food Bank

The haunted house in Orinda's Theatre Square seems to have scared up some donations for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano.

The exhibit next to the Subway sandwich shop ended its five-day run Wednesday night.

Luis Hernandez, one of the contractors running the house, said they've been getting 100 to 200 visitors a day since opening on Saturday.

Before Wednesday night, they had raised $800 for the food bank as well as four barrels of donated canned food.

This was the second year for the haunted house. It was sponsored this year by the Theatre Square management and the nearby Barbacoa Mexican restaurant.

A decent line had formed on Wednesday evening for the haunting exhibit.

Marci Adams of Orinda had brought her daughter, Juliette, and four of her friends from Orinda Intermediate School -- Ava, Isla, Anna and Lorelei.

Adams said the girls just wanted a little pre-Halloween fun.

"They wanted to go to a haunted house for Halloween," she said.

"We wanted to be scared for Halloween," added Ava.

The girl plan to go trick-or-treating on Thursday evening. Three of them will be police officers, one will be a zebra and another will be a soldier.
